Nous sommes donc rapidement partis pour Moorea, île juste en face Tahiti (on la voit de Papeete) - le vol le plus rapide de nos vies : 15 minutes à tout casser dans un des petits avions de Air Tahiti ! Et déjà là, sur le chemin de l'aéroport vers notre pension Fare Miti, nous sommes ravis par ce que nous voyons. Des cocotiers par centaine, de belles montagnes couvertes d'une végétation luxuriante, et un superbe lagon aux couleurs incroyables. Nous sommes encore plus ravis quand nous arrivons à destination et nous installons dans notre bungalow traditionnel, car nous nous trouvons dans un petit jardin fleuri avec seulement 7 autres bungalows. Juste au bout du jardin se trouve une petite plage de sable, le lagon, et un petit îlot en face - ici on appelle ça un motu. Des kayaks à disposition, nous avons déjà nos masques et tuba, et voilà, c'est parti !
Arrive en même temps que nous une autre famille tour du mondiste avec qui nous sympathisons - nous passerons de bons moments ensembles pendant les 2 prochains jours ! Jean-Marie, Patricia et leurs enfants Titouan et Calypso viennent d'arriver de l'Ile de Pâques et tournent dans les sens opposé à nous, nous échangerons bien sûr de bons tuyaux pour la suite du voyage.
Nous nous éclatons dans cet environnement tranquille faisant du kayak jusqu'au motu et nageant dans l'eau chaude du lagon. Les garçons, dès le premier jour, verront des raies léopard et une multitude d'autre petits poissons de toutes les couleurs. Et le soir, nous voyons passer entre la plage et le motu.......l'aileron d'un requin à pointe noire. C'est magique.
Les requins, nous en verrons de beaucoup plus près au lagoonarium de l'île - c'est une zone naturelle sur et autour d'un motu, mais balisée avec une corde pour permettre au gens de nager en toute tranquillité et toute sécurité tout en profitant des nombreuses créatures de mer qui fréquentent cet espace. Il y a beaucoup de courant lors de notre visite et donc la corde n'est pas de trop. On en prend plein les yeux, et là, juste à côté de nous, voilà que nous voyons un requin, et puis un autre, et encore un ! Toujours des pointes noires, des requins de lagons, inoffensifs - ils ne sont pas craindre et nous pouvons donc nous laisser aller à les observer, beaux et majestueux. Wilfred, notre hôte sur le motu, donne à manger aux raies pastenague et les garçons pourront nager avec eux - ils sont aux anges ! Quels moments fabuleux que nous vivons !
Le soir nous trinquons et mangeons avec Patricia, Jean-Marie et les enfants - du bon poisson perroquet qu'ils ont acheté aux pêcheurs au bord de la route et qu'Alain et Jean-Marie font cuire au barbecue. C'est extra.
Moorea, on aime beaucoup !
So we soon left Tahiti for Moorea, island just opposite Tahiti, you can see it from Papeete. The quickest flight of our lives, all of 15 minutes in one of Air Tahiti's tiny planes ! Already en route for our guesthouse Fare Miti from the airport we like what we see. Hundreds of coconut trees, beautiful mountains covered by an abundance of tropical vegetation, and a superb lagoon with incredible colours. We are even more delighted when we arrive at our guesthouse and settle in to our traditional bungalow set in a garden with only 7 other bungalows. Just at the bottom of the garden is a sandy beach, the lagoon, and opposite, a tiny island which in Polynesia they call a "motu". Kayaks available for our use, we already have our masks and tubas, we're all set to go !!
Another family of round the world tourers arrive at the same time as us. We get on well right from the start and spend some fun moments together over the next couple of days. Jean-Marie, Patricia and their children Titouan and Calypso have just come from Easter Island and are travelling in the opposite direction to us, so we exchange advice and info about the next parts of our journeys.
We have a great time in this quiet and peaceful environment, kayaking and swimming in the warm waters of the lagoon. Even on the very first day the boys spot some leopard rays and many other multi-coloured fish, and in the evening, between the beach and the motu, we spot.......a shark fin passing by. Wow !
We will get even closer to sharks at the lagoonarium - it's part of the lagoon just off a motu, which has a roped circuit so that you can swim safely and securely admiring all the sea creatures swimming round you. The day we were there the currents were strong so it was good to have the ropes to hang on to. We can't believe our eyes at all this amazing sealife, and there, just next to us, we see a shark, then another, and another. They are blacktip lagoon sharks and are not dangerous to humans, provided of course that you don't do anything stupid, so we can leave our fears behind and observe their beauty and majesty in the water. Wilfred, our host on the lagoonarium motu feeds the pastenague rays which we can caress and the boys can swim with them, they are so over the moon ! Yet more fabulous and unforgettable moments !
Later that evening we clink glasses and eat with Patricia, Jean-Marie and the kids - some lovely parrot fish that they bought from some fisherman at the side of the road and which Alain and Jean-Marie grill on the barbecue. It's delicious.
