The ferry ride from Picton in the South Island, to Wellington in the North Island is a cruise within its own right ! Before sailing on the high seas the ferry sails through the Sounds, beautiful and peaceful in the morning light.
Upon arrival in Wellington we visited the excellent Te Papa museum and especially the section on Maori culture. We then headed towards the Weta Workshop, studio where the Lord of the Rings films (among others) were filmed, but to the boys huge disappointment there were no places left in the tours scheduled that afternoon. We were not organised enough to have booked in advance, that's one of the difficulties in a round the world tour, you can't plan EVERYTHING in advance, and sometimes things don't happen as planned ! Still, we managed to get a photo or two with the troll statues in the garden.
La traversée en ferry de Picton, Ile Sud, à Wellington, Ile Nord, est une véritable croisière plus qu'une traversée ! Avant de sortir en haute mer le ferry passe par les Sounds, magnifiques et paisibles dans la lumière du matin.

Ensuite nous sommes allées au Weta Workshop, studio de tournage où les films Seigneur de l'Anneau (entre autres) ont été tournés, mais à la grande déception des garçons il n'y avait plus de place cet après-midi là.... manque d'organisation pour réserver en avance....c'est une des difficultés d'un tour du monde, on ne peut pas TOUT prévoir en avance et parfois on se fait avoir...On a quand-même pris une photo ou deux avec messieurs les trolls dans le jardin.
