Aujourd'hui je veux vous parler de la journée préférée des garçons dans tout notre périple néo-zélandaise, et c'est pour dire ! Dans la MEME journée nous avons vu le village des hobbits ET un match de rugby ! Nous sommes partis tôt le matin du Coromandel direction Matamata où se trouve Hobbiton. Pour ne pas rester bredouille tel était le cas au Weta Workshop, cette fois-ci nous avions réservé notre visite en avance. C'est vraiment chouette, un paysage doux, rond, vert, fleuri, exactement comme on le voit dans les films, avec les petites maisons des Hobbits dans tous les coins ! Après une visite guidée nous donnant pleins d'anecdotes sur le tournage, et avec une bière et un cidre pour les parents et un ginger beer pour les garçons au Green Dragon Inn nous avons terminé en beauté, juste une toute petite pointe de déception de ne pas avoir croisé Bilbo Baggins dans son jardin.......
Ensuite transfert immédiat vers la ville de Hamilton où nous avions réservé nos places pour un match de rugby du Super 18 : les Chiefs de Nouvelle Zélande contre les Lions d'Afrique du Sud. Super match, bien physique, bien rapide, bien engagé. Les Chiefs (que nous supportions évidemment) ont perdu de peu avec un score final de 36 à 32 pour les Lions, on a vu du jeu !!
Les joueurs des Chiefs sont restés sur le terrain à serrer des mains et donner des autographes pendant un long moment. Elliot et Luca ont réussi à avoir des photos avec eux et à obtenir pas mal d'autographes en souvenir de leur passage dans ce pays où le rugby est une religion ! Ils ont même eu l'autographe d'Aaron Cruden, no. 10 dans l'équipe des All Blacks, rien que ça ! Je peux vous dire que ce soir-là ils se sont couchés les plus heureux du monde...
Today I want to tell you about the boys favourite day in all of our New Zealand adventures, and that's saying something ! In the SAME day we saw Hobbiton AND a rugby match ! We left Coromandel early in the morning and headed for Hobbiton just outside of Matamata. So as not to find ourselves in the same situation as at the Weta Workshop, this time round we had made sure to book in advance. It's a fantastic place, rolling countryside, with grassy hills, gardens full of flowers and little Hobbit homes all over the place ! After a guided tour with lots of tales about the set and the making of the film, and with a beer and a cider for the parents, and some gingerbeer for the kids at the famous Green Dragon Inn, our visit ended perfectly - only a wee bit disappointed not to have bumped into Bilbo Baggins in his garden ....
Immediate transfer towards the town of Hamilton where we had booked tickets to see a Super 18 rugby match : the New Zealand Chiefs against the South African Lions. Great match, physical, fast, a real battle. The Chiefs (who we were supporting of course) lost, but only just, with a final score of 36 to 32 for the Lions - we sure saw some good rugby !!
The Chiefs players stayed on the pitch for a good while after the game, shaking hands and signing autographs for the fans. Elliot and Luca managed to get some photos with them, as well as a good few autographs as a souvenir of the match in this country where rugby is a religion. They even got Aaron Cruden's autograph, no. 10 in the All Black team if you don't mind. I can tell you they went to bed that night happy bunnies !!
