Depuis Copacabana, petite ville agréable sur le lac Titicaca a 3800m d'altitude, nous prenons un bateau pour aller sur l'Isla del Sol ou nous passerons 3 jours bien tranquilles - ça fait du bien !
On dit que c'est sur l'Isla del Sol que sont nés les dieux Inca et l'ile a toujours tenu une place importante dans l'histoire et la mythologie inca - dans le nord de l'ile on peut d'ailleurs visiter les ruines incas de Chincana ainsi qu'une table cérémoniale.
Trois jours donc de soleil (et oui, l'ile n'a pas volé son nom), de paix, de beaux paysages pastoraux, de bonne bouffe (les truites du lac sont excellents), et de promenades.
Le premier jour nous descendons du bateau à Challapampa, village du nord de l'ile, et nous installons à l'Hostal Mirador, recommandé par Camille et Guillaume à Sucre. Nous avons une vue fabuleuse de notre chambre sur le lac et la petite péninsule où tous les locaux passent avec leurs ânes et leurs vaches pour y travailler les champs. Le reste de la journée nous profitons de ce lieu paisible - promenade, pique-nique, et une bonne partie de foot avec les petits du village pour les garçons.
Le deuxième jour nous partons faire la traversée de l’île à pied, du nord au sud sur le magnifique chemin des crêtes. D'abord nous nous arrêtons dans un tout petit resto repéré la veille pour prendre le petit déjeuner. Nous sommes seuls sur la terrasse fleurie en hauteur avec une belle vue sur la plage et la baie en contre-bas. Nous dégustons notre meilleur petit déj de la Bolivie en compagnie du petit Victor, le fils de la propriétaire Elsa. C'est le top pour commencer la journée.
La marche se fait bien, même si nous sommes un peu essoufflés par moment dans les montées-le
point culminant de l'ile est quand-même à 4075m, et on ne marche pas ici comme à Serignan-Plage !!!
Presque à la fin de la marche nous croisons Fabien et Coline et nous donnons rendez-vous pour manger le soir au Resto Las Velas - une savoureuse truite après une attente de deux bonnes heures - heureusement que la compagnie etait bonne, l'ambiance aux chandelles sympa, et que la nourriture valait l'attente !
Le dernier jour nous avons profité de la tranquillité du village du sud, Yumani, et la vue de la terrasse
de notre auberge avant de reprendre le bateau pour Copacabana dans l’après-midi.
Ces trois jours ont été une bonne bouffée d'oxygène - loin des villes, plongés dans la vie campagnarde de l’île, entourés de cochons, vaches, moutons et ânes pour le plus grand plaisir des garçons, qui, je crois, ont trouvé une vocation de berger !
C'est sans aucun doute dans nos tops de la Bolivie !
From the pleasant little town of Copacabana on Lake Titicaca we decided to spend a few days on the Isla del Sol and took the two hour boat crossing to get there.
According to legend it is here that the Inca gods were born, and the island has always played an important role in Inca history and mythology. The Inca ruins of Chincana, as well as a ceremonial table can be visited in the north of the island.
Three days of sun (yes, the island's name is well suited), of peace, of beautiful pastoral countryside, of good food (the trout from the lake is excellent !), and of walks.
The first day we arrived by boat in the village of Challapampa in the north of the island and settled into Hostal Mirador recommended by Camille and Guillaume in Sucre. We had a fabulous view from our room of the lake and the small peninsula where the locals walk by with their mules and their cows to work the fields. For the rest of the day we relaxed in the peace of the village, picnic, walking, taking in the views, and for the boys, a game of football with the kids in the village.
The next day we set off to walk from the north of the island to the south on the scenic mountain path. First of all we stopped for breakfast at a little restaurant we had spotted the day before. There were just the four of us on the terrace with a gorgeous view of the beach and the bay below. We ate the best breakfast of all our stay in Bolivia in the company of Victor, the owner Elsa's little boy. A great start to the day !
We managed the walk fine, even though we were a bit puffed on the uphill parts - the highest point on the island is 4075m, and you can't walk at that altitude like you would on Sérignan beach ! Near the end of our walk we met Coline and Fabien and decided to meet later for a meal at the Las Velas restaurant - some delicious trout, after a good two hour wait - thankfully the company was good, the candle atmosphere was cosy, and the food was worth the wait !
The last day we relaxed in the southern village of Yumani, making the most of the peace and quiet and the view from the terrace of our hotel.
These three days were a great breath of air - far from the cities, in the country atmosphere of the island, surrounded by pigs, cows, sheep and donkeys, mch to the boys delight - we reckon they will become shepherds by the way !
L'Isla del Sol is definitely one of our top visits in Bolivia !
