Cusco - une ville à l'histoire riche, capitale d'une empire puissante, celle des Incas, qui, à son apogée, s'étendait, au nord, jusqu'à Quito en Equateur, et au sud, jusqu'à Mendoza en Argentine. Nous y avons passé de bons moments avant et après notre séjour dans la Vallée Sacrée et au Machu Picchu.
Le dimanche de notre arrivée, nous avons eu la chance de tomber sur une fête locale - colorée, festive, mouvementée, avec pleins de costumes et de danses. La superbe Plaza de Armas était pleine à craquer de spectateurs - locaux et touristes qui se délectaient de ce beau spectacle.
De bons restos en compagnie de Coline et Fabien (à croire qu'ils n'en ont toujours pas marre de nous !), du shopping en centre-ville, et de petits dejs dans la cour sympa de notre auberge du quartier San Blas qui surplombe la ville, ont agrémenté notre agréable séjour.
La ville et sa région méritent à elles seules de longues vacances tellement il y a à voir et à faire ! Nous n'en avons pas fait la moitié. Faudra y revenir.........
Cusco - a city soaked in history, former capital of the powerful Inca empire which, at it's peak, stretched from Quito, Ecuador in the north, to Mendoza, Argentina in the south. We enjoyed our stay in the city, both before and after our trip to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
We arrived on a Sunday and were lucky to stumble upon a local festival - colourful, festive, lively, with many beautiful costumes and dances. The superb Plaza de Armas was packed with spectators, both locals and tourists who were enjoying the show !
We tried out a couple of excellent restaurants with Coline and Fabien (they don't appear to be fed up of us yet !), did some shopping in the town-centre, and enjoyed our breakfasts in the pleasant courtyard of our hostel situated in the "in" quartier of San Blas.
The city and it's region are well worth a long vacation in themselves, and we didn't see half of what is on offer......will need to come back, without a doubt !
